CATAPULT'S VISION
History
The idea of Catapult Innovation Centres first came up in the context of the UK government’s strategy for economic growth in 2011. Before this, Great Britain had a company called NAREC, which was founded in 2002 and also dealt with offshore wind and wave energy. In 2014 NAREC was taken over by the Catapult industries. The Glasgow Catapult Centre for Renewable Energy was finally operational in January 2014. Andrew Jamieson was the first employee of the Renewable Energy Centre, now in 2017 he has a team of over 120 employees with a variety of work areas. Although the Catapult companies are supported by the governance, they set high value on their independence and discretion.
